Health Center
Health & Wellness
The Health Center staff at Academic City provide basic primary care to all students. The nursing team is available during working hours for health counselling, evaluation, and treatment of common medical concerns. For medical care beyond the scope of practice of the Student Health Center, students are referred to a nearby private clinic in emergency cases, and a mix of private and public facilities for standard referrals.
Hours of Operation: 8am to 6pm - Mondays to Fridays
Academic City offers a comprehensive range of Counselling services to all our students. Our Counselling programmes are designed to provide a secure, private environment where students can discuss their concerns and develop strategies to address them. ACITY Counselling Unit provides these services at no additional cost to the students. Taking the first step in seeking assistance can be challenging, but our highly skilled Counselling professionals work closely with students to identify their unique needs and objectives in a supportive and encouraging setting
Our Counselling services strictly adhere to the professional standards and ethical principles of psychologists in Ghana, with stringent policies applied to both in-person and tele-counselling services.

Health information is kept confidential and is limited to people who are directly involved with the patient's care: nurses, doctors, etc. Access to medical records is restricted to the Health Center staff and is shared with others only upon the written consent of the individual involved. In the case of a threat to life, an exception may be made, and information may be shared with the deans, the president of the university and the student's emergency contacts (typically, parents).
ACity Health Vault
ACity HealthVault is an in-house built custom application that empowers the Health Center to safely store and maintain health records and vaccination history for all students. The application allows our nurses to log visits by students and staff, and store parent or guardian contact information for easy access in case of any health emergencies. Similarly, the HealthVault can quickly bring a physician up to speed on a student’s medical history and recently prescribed medication.
Student Health Insurance
Academic City expects all students to have either National Health Insurance or private medical insurance, particularly those who live on campus. Student health insurance plans are available through a variety of providers in Ghana or through family health plans. This coverage is essential for health care services provided outside the Student Health Center. We strongly urge you to check the details of your insurance policy to make sure it provides coverage in the Haatso/Madina/Legon area. Speak to the nurse to recommend a health policy for you, or visit the offices of any of the recommended providers.
