The Minister of State and Chief of Staff to the President of Angola, H.E. Excellency Dionísio Manuel da Fonseca, has expressed admiration for the innovative educational model of Academic City University following a courtesy call on the institution during his visit to Ghana.
The visit provided an opportunity for discussions on potential collaborations between the Government of Angola, higher educational institutions in Angola and Academic City University aimed at advancing STEM education across the continent.
Touring the university’s state-of-the-art facilities, including its engineering laboratories, Technology and Entrepreneurship Centre and practical learning spaces, H.E. Manuel da Fonseca commended Academic City for its commitment to producing graduates equipped with the skills needed to drive Africa’s development agenda.
He described Academic City’s university as a model institution whose approach to STEM education aligns with the aspirations of the Angolan government.
“The Academic City model is one that we are keen to study and learn from as Angola prepares to commission a new ICT facility. The university has demonstrated how innovation, practical learning and entrepreneurship can be integrated to develop future-ready graduates,” he said.
H.E. Manuel da Fonseca noted that strengthening STEM education was critical to Africa’s industrialisation and economic transformation, adding that partnerships among African institutions would be vital in building the human capital required for the continent’s progress.
The President of Academic City University, Prof. Fred McBagonluri, welcomed the delegation and underscored the importance of collaboration among African higher education institutions.
According to him, stronger partnerships would facilitate knowledge exchange, research collaboration and innovation, enabling universities to develop solutions to the continent’s pressing challenges.
“Africa’s transformation will be driven by a new generation of leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs who understand the continent’s unique opportunities and challenges. To achieve this, our institutions must work together, share ideas and build ecosystems that nurture talent and innovation,” he said.
Prof. McBagonluri expressed Academic City’s readiness to collaborate with institutions in Angola to advance STEM education, entrepreneurship and leadership development.
He added that the university remained committed to fostering partnerships that would contribute to Africa’s socio-economic development and help prepare young people to become agents of change across the continent.
