Entry Requirements

Academic City’s programmes are fully accredited by The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) . Find the entry requirements for Academic City programmes based on high school qualifications below.

1. Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE)

Applicants must obtain passes (A–D) in six (6) subjects comprising:

  • Three (3) core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and General Science or Social Studies.
  • Three (3) relevant elective subjects, including Elective Mathematics, Physics, and one other relevant elective subject.
2. West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

Applicants must obtain credits (A1–C6) in six (6) subjects comprising:

  • Three (3) core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and General Science or Social Studies.
  • Three (3) relevant elective subjects, including Elective Mathematics, Physics, and one other relevant elective subject.
    Minimum grade requirement: C6.
3. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level

Applicants must obtain passes in three (3) subjects, with at least one pass at Grade D or better. Subjects must include Elective Mathematics, Physics, and one other relevant elective subject.
Applicants must also possess credit passes (Grade C or better) in five (5) GCE Ordinary Level subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

4. Other Accepted Qualifications
  • French Baccalaureate: Minimum overall score of 10.00.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB): Grades A*/A–C in English, Mathematics, and Science, plus three Higher Level subjects.
  • GCE (Cambridge): Five credits at O-Level including English and Mathematics, plus passes in three relevant A-Level subjects.
  • IGCSE (Cambridge): Five credits at O-Level including English and Mathematics, plus passes in three relevant A-Level subjects.
  • American High School Diploma: Grade 13 with a GPA of 2.50 or higher.

All foreign qualifications will be referred to GTEC for equivalence determination.

5. Level 200 Entry

Applicants with diplomas or HND qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electronics and Communication Engineering may be considered for Level 200 admission.

HND applicants must possess at least a Second Class (Lower Division) and a minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience.

PLUS three (3) elective subjects.
Required aggregate: 6–24.

2. West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

Applicants must obtain credits in:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Integrated Science

PLUS three (3) elective subjects.
Required aggregate: 6–36.

3. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level

Applicants must obtain passes in three (3) subjects, with at least one pass at Grade D or better.
Applicants must also possess credit passes in five (5) GCE Ordinary Level subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and a Science subject.

Minimum grade requirement: C6.

3. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level

Applicants must obtain passes in three (3) subjects, including Elective Mathematics and Physics.

At least one pass must be Grade D or better.

Applicants must also possess credit passes in five (5) O-Level subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, and a Science subject.

      Relevant electives may include subjects in Agriculture, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Business, ICT, Languages, Visual Arts, Humanities, Technical, and Creative Arts disciplines, including subjects such as Biology, Physics, Elective Mathematics, Geography, Economics, Financial Accounting, Business Management, Graphic Design, General Knowledge in Art, Music, Government, History, ICT, Foods and Nutrition, Applied Electricity, French, and selected Ghanaian or foreign languages relevant to the chosen programme.

      • Integrated Science, Social Studies, Civic Education, Environmental Studies, General Science, Agricultural Science, Foods and Nutrition, ICT, Data Processing, or Computer Studies

      Required Aggregate

      • 24 or better for SSSCE
    • West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE/NECO)

      Applicants must obtain credits in recognised core subjects, including:

      • English Language
      • Core Mathematics
      • Integrated Science, Social Studies, Civic Education, Environmental Studies, General Science, Agricultural Science, Foods and Nutrition, ICT, Data Processing, or Computer Studies

      Required Aggregate

      • 36 or better for WASSCE / NECO
    • Relevant Elective Subjects

      Applicants must obtain credits in three (3) relevant elective subjects approved by the University.

      Relevant electives may include subjects in General Science, Agricultural Science, Mathematics, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Arts, Languages, Humanities, Commerce, and Business-related disciplines, including subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Geography, Literature in English, Economics, Commerce, Principles of Accounting, Government, Fine and Applied Arts, Music, and selected regional or foreign languages relevant to the chosen programme.

  3. GCE Advanced Level Applicants

    Applicants must possess;

    • Credits in five (5) O-Level subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
    • Passes in three (3) A-Level subjects, with at least two passes at Grade D or better.
  4. International Baccalaureate (IB)

    Applicants must complete either the IB Diploma or Diploma Programme with passes in relevant subjects, including English and Mathematics.

  5. French Baccalaureate
    • Applicants must obtain passes in at least five (5) subjects with a minimum average of 10/20.
    • One subject may have a minimum score of 8/20, provided the overall average remains at least 10/20.
  6. Level 200 Entry
    • Applicants with diplomas or HND qualifications in Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, or Mass Communication may be considered.
    • HND applicants must possess at least a Second Class (Lower Division) and two (2) years of relevant work experience.

The application process for our graduate programmes is entirely online. Access the application form directly at Apply Online .

Yes. After payment and proof submission, an email confirmation will be sent. The original receipt can be collected from the Accounts Office.

All applications are reviewed and considered by the Post-Graduate Department Coordinator.

 ACity admits students twice annually for the September intake and the January intake. Please check the admissions page for the most up-to-date application deadlines.  
 

Contact your admissions officer before classes start. After classes begin, contact the registry or finance office.

Currently, no scholarships are offered. However, flexible payment plans are available. Learn more in the finance policy: acity.edu.gh/downloads.php

Currently, housing is not available for graduate students.

Where can I get my application?

Academic City application forms are available for download from our website, or you can fill in your application online at Apply Online

Do I have to pay for my application?

Students can submit to us an application at no charge, however students need to pay an application fee for our admissions staff to review their application.

Can I get a receipt for my application fee?

If you paid on-line, your e-mail confirmation is your receipt. We do not send any other acknowledgment of payment. If payment is missing, we will contact you.

What kind of admissions criteria does Academic City use?

There is no formula for gaining admission to ACity. Academic accomplishment in senior high school is important. The Admissions Team does not use quotas of any kind. We rely on academic credentials and overall performance of the student.

Who reads applications?

All applications received are read and carefully considered by our Admissions Team through a series of committee meetings.

What is Academic City's intake in a year?

ACity admits students in the fall and spring semesters, please see the admissions page for specific cohorts and intake dates for the upcoming Academic year.

Can there be refund of fees after admission or if a student withdraws from the course?

Does Academic City provide financial aid or scholarships?

Yes, we provide merit-based scholarships and need-based financial aid. We also provide payment plans and can support students to apply for loans.

When will my application decision be mailed?

Upon receiving your submitted application, the Admissions Team will provide a decision within 30 days (Ghana) & 14 days (Nigeria).

I've been accepted. How long do I have to accept the offer of admission?

You must respond to admissions within 1 month of receiving your offer. Deadlines may vary if you receive an offer with financial aid or scholarship.

What documents do I need to complete the online application?

The only documents you will need are: (1) Prior educational qualifications and transcript, (2) Equivalence of your qualifications for candidates from foreign language institutes. *Additional optional documents such as certificates of achievement and/or training may improve your application.

How/When do I apply for student housing?

Simply indicate on your online application or paper application by ticking the box that asks if you need student housing. Academic City will take care of the rest.
