BA Journalism and Mass Communication at ACity
Our Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication degree is designed for students to engage with theory and contemporary practice, providing the necessary skills for employability within a start-up, a communications department, a media house and wherever journalistic practice is integral to an organization and society. This course is structured to offer students good career prospects in journalism with a clear focus on developing employability across the media sector, recognizing the level of fragmentation of this landscape, in both domestic and international contexts.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must obtain credits in the following core subjects:
- English Language
- Core Mathematics
- Social Studies or Integrated Science
PLUS
Credits in three (3) relevant elective subjects approved by the University.
Relevant electives may include subjects in Agriculture, Sciences, Business, ICT, Languages, Visual Arts, Humanities, Technical, and Creative Arts disciplines, including subjects such as Biology, Physics, Elective Mathematics, Geography, Economics, Financial Accounting, Business Management, Graphic Design, General Knowledge in Art, Music, Government, History, ICT, Foods and Nutrition, Applied Electricity, French, and selected Ghanaian or foreign languages relevant to the programme.
Required Aggregate
- 36 or better for WASSCE / NOV-DEC
- 24 or better for SSSCE / NOV-DEC
Applicants must obtain credits in recognised core subjects, including English Language, Core Mathematics, and relevant humanities, science, technical, or ICT-related subjects such as Integrated Science, Social Studies, Civic Education, Environmental Studies, General Science, Agricultural Science, ICT, Data Processing, Computer Studies, Technical Drawing, Visual Arts, or related subjects.
Applicants must additionally obtain credits in three (3) relevant elective subjects approved by the University. Relevant electives may include subjects in Sciences, Arts, Languages, Humanities, Commerce, and Business-related disciplines, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Literature in English, Economics, Commerce, Principles of Accounting, Government, Fine and Applied Arts, Music, and selected regional or foreign languages relevant to the programme.
Required Aggregate
- 36 or better for WASSCE / NECO
- 24 or better for SSSCE
Applicants must possess credits (Grade D or better) in five (5) GCE O-Level subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
Applicants must additionally obtain passes in three (3) A-Level subjects, with at least two (2) passes at Grade D or better.
Applicants must have completed either the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or Diploma Programme (DP) Course.
Applicants must obtain:
- Passes in a minimum of four (4) or five (5) subjects, depending on the IB pathway
- Subjects must include Mathematics and English
- Subjects may combine Standard Level (SL)/O-Level and Higher Level (HL)
Applicants must have completed the French Baccalaureate (Baccalauréat Général — Série Économique et Sociale or Série Littéraire) with passes in a minimum of five (5) subjects.
Requirements include:
- Minimum score of 10/20 in each subject
- One subject may have a minimum score of 8/20, provided the overall average across all five subjects is at least 10/20
Applicants must possess:
- Five (5) O-Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics
- Passes in three (3) relevant A-Level subjects
Applicants must possess a Grade 13 qualification with a minimum GPA of 2.50.
All foreign qualifications will be referred to GTEC for determination of equivalence and eligibility for admission to tertiary institutions in Ghana.
