Role Purpose
The Lecturer in Computational Finance will contribute to teaching, research, curriculum development, and academic leadership by strengthening the University’s Finance, Accounting, and Business programmes through the integration of computational, quantitative, and data-driven approaches. The role supports programme expansion, responds to growing industry and student demand, and enhances research capacity in computational and quantitative finance.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computational Finance, Quantitative Finance, Financial Modelling, Risk Management, FinTech, Corporate Finance, and related areas.
- Design, review, and update course content to reflect global trends in digital finance, data analytics, and quantitative financial analysis.
- Supervise undergraduate projects, master’s theses, and doctoral research where applicable.
- Apply innovative teaching methods, including the use of financial software, programming tools, and real-world datasets.
Programme Development
- Support the expansion and modernization of Finance, Accounting, and Business curricula by embedding computational and quantitative content.
- Contribute to the development of new programmes, electives, and short courses in computational and quantitative finance.
- Collaborate with colleagues across mathematics, computer science, economics, and engineering to promote interdisciplinary learning.
Research & Scholarly Activity
- Conduct high-quality research in computational finance, quantitative modelling, risk analytics, fintech, or related fields.
- Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences.
- Seek research funding and participate in interdisciplinary and industry-linked research projects.
Industry Engagement & Service
- Engage with industry partners to ensure curriculum relevance and support student employability.
- Participate in academic committees, departmental meetings, and quality assurance activities.
- Contribute to community outreach, executive education, and professional development programmes as required.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- PhD in Computational Finance, Quantitative Finance, Financial Engineering, Applied Finance, Management Science, Finance, or a closely related field.
- Master’s degree in Finance, Quantitative Methods, Mathematical Modelling, or related discipline (if not already covered by the PhD).
- Strong background in quantitative analysis, financial modelling, and computational methods.
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the tertiary level or strong potential for academic teaching.
Desirable Qualifications
- Professional certifications such as CFA, FRM, PRM, or CQF (Certificate in Quantitative Finance).
- Experience using programming and analytical tools (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, SQL, financial analytics platforms).
- Evidence of industry engagement or applied research in finance or fintech.
