About the Role
Academic City University is seeking to urgently recruit a Faculty Assistant (Information Technology) with a strong background in Networking and Cybersecurity. The successful candidate will support academic delivery, laboratory operations, and practical learning activities within the IT and Computer Science programmes.
This role is critical in ensuring the smooth operation of networking labs, cybersecurity infrastructure, and hands-on technical support for faculty and students.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical and academic support for networking and cybersecurity courses.
- Assist lecturers during laboratory sessions, practical demonstrations, and workshops.
- Set up, configure, and maintain networking equipment, servers, and lab environments.
- Support cybersecurity labs, simulations, and practical exercises.
- Assist in managing IT infrastructure, including networks, firewalls, and access controls.
- Support students with practical assignments, projects, and troubleshooting.
- Maintain inventory and ensure proper use of IT and networking equipment.
- Provide basic IT support for departmental systems and learning platforms.
- Assist in documentation, reporting, and lab safety compliance.
- Participate in departmental activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Information Technology Infrastructure, or a related field.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of computer networks, network configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Basic to intermediate understanding of cybersecurity principles (network security, access control, threat management).
- Familiarity with networking devices (routers, switches, firewalls).
- Ability to support practical lab-based learning environments.
- Strong problem-solving and technical support skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Attributes
- Hands-on experience with network administration or cybersecurity tools.
- Familiarity with Linux/Windows server environments.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CCNA, Security+, CEH) will be an advantage.
- Previous experience in an academic or training environment.
