Overview
The Health Center at Academic City provides basic primary care services to all students. A Physician Assistant and a nursing team are available 24/7 to offer health counselling, evaluation, and treatment for common medical concerns. When care beyond the scope of the Health Center is required, students are referred to a nearby private clinic for emergencies and to a network of private and public health facilities for specialised treatment.
Our Health Center provides professional, confidential care in a safe and welcoming environment, ensuring full-time students have access to the support they need to stay healthy and well.
Contact Information
Common Conditions Treated
Health information is kept confidential and is limited to people who are directly involved with the patient’s care: nurses, doctors, etc. Access to medical records is restricted to the Health Center staff and is shared with others only upon the written consent of the individual involved. In the case of a threat to life, an exception may be made, and information may be shared with the deans, the president of the university and the student’s emergency contacts (typically, parents).
Student Health Insurance
Academic City expects all students to have either National Health Insurance or private medical insurance, particularly those who live on campus. Student health insurance plans are available through a variety of providers in Ghana or through family health plans. This coverage is essential for health care services provided outside the Student Health Center. We strongly urge you to check the details of your insurance policy to make sure it provides coverage in the Haatso/Madina/Legon area. Speak to the nurse to recommend a health policy for you, or visit the offices of any of the recommended providers.
