Civic Engagement

Civic Engagement

The true measure of student growth is reflected in the contribution students make to society. Taking responsibility for the transformation of one’s community is a hallmark of the transition into adulthood and a core value at Academic City.

Featured Initiatives

The Bnari Farms Project

The Class of 2023 worked extensively on agriculture as part of the newly introduced Technology and Society Course Challenge at ACity. The project saw students engage with Bnari Farms, a neighbouring vegetable farming community, where they built a strong and meaningful relationship with local farmers. Through the innovative use of technology, students assisted the farmers in improving their processes and the quality of their produce.

The Ventilator Project

When the COVID-19 pandemic reached Ghana in March 2020, students of ACity rose to the challenge and sought solutions to the many health challenges brought to light by the spread of the virus. A dedicated team of engineering students, under the guidance of the University President, designed and developed a ventilator to support Ghana's healthcare response. This initiative exemplifies ACity's commitment to using knowledge and innovation as tools for real-world impact.

Papao Community School Engagement

In a heartfelt initiative, Academic City students dedicated their time and expertise to inspire young minds at Papao Community Presbyterian Basic School. Around 30 students volunteered to teach a diverse range of subjects, including French, Engineering, Biology, and creative upcycling, fostering curiosity and a passion for learning among primary and JHS students. This engagement reflects ACity's commitment to impactful education beyond the classroom, empowering the next generation through knowledge-sharing and mentorship.

ACity’s Leo Club Spreads Joy at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital

The Academic City Leo Club visited children battling cancer at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital as part of a heartwarming community outreach initiative. Club members spent the day engaging young patients in creative activities, including art sessions and interactive games, offering them moments of joy and comfort. This initiative reflects ACity's commitment to community service, fostering compassion and making a meaningful impact beyond the classroom.

Academic City Empowers Orphans with Tech Skills

Academic City partnered with The Implementers to host 55 orphans at its Technology and Entrepreneurship Centre, providing hands-on training in upcycling, robotics, 3D printing, and laser cutting. Held in celebration of the birthday of Kafui Prebbie, CEO of The Implementers and TECHAiDE Ltd, the initiative sought to equip children with vital technology skills and ignite their curiosity for innovation and creativity.
