Application Process

Academic City admits its freshman class every Fall in late August, with early admission deadlines in March. The application process is simple and can be completed online. Our Admissions Office is open from 9 am to 5 pm daily at our campus in Haatso, Accra. Our friendly admissions officers are available for a chat via phone, WhatsApp and Facebook during opening hours.

Ways to Apply

Admission to ACity is competitive, but the admission process is a personal one. Each application is reviewed holistically to understand the strength of each student’s academic preparation including their performance on final exams, counselor recommendations, and their personal career interests. We seek applicants from a variety of geographic, social, cultural, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.

Our online application is simple and takes 5-7 minutes to fill. You can create a login and always return to continue the application where you left off. Keep handy your parents' contact information, academic qualifications and program of interest. Applications that are complete and include a personal essay will be looked upon favorably.

Financial Aid & Scholarships

Academic City is committed to making education affordable and accessible to all students. ACity invests more than 400,000 USD annually in our students and distributes another 100,000 USD from other sources to assist students and their families meet the cost of an Academic City education. Merit Based Scholarships are available for qualifying students. Academic City also has Financial Aid available for students with financial need. However, since financial aid is limited and subject to the availability of funds, it is awarded strictly to strong applicants who show genuine financial need.

To be considered for merit-based aid: Apply for admission by the priority timelines. Admitted students will be reviewed for merit-based scholarships.

To be considered for needed-based aid: Select 'I need financial aid' on your online admissions application, or download the form through the Apply for Aid link above.

Apply for a loan: Academic City can assist you in applying for a variety of student loans for which you may qualify.

Enroll in a semester payment plan: We also offer student payment plans for those who are unable to pay the full fees upfront. Please contact the Admissions Office for more information.

We understand that some families are in unique financial circumstances and need to speak with an admissions counsellor about aid. Please email to discuss a financial package for your son or daughter.

Entry Requirements

Academic City's programs are taught in accordance with the degree programs offered by public universities such as University of Mines & Technology (UMAT) and University of Cape Coast (UCC). Find the entry requirements for Academic City programs based on high school qualifications below.

Engineering Programs

6 credit passes with minimum C6 including 3 core subjects (including English, Maths and Science) and 3 elective subjects (including Elective Maths, Physics and a science subject).

Minimum D or a pass in 6 subjects including 3 core subjects (including English, Maths and Science) and 3 elective subjects (including Elective Maths, Physics and a science subject).

Minimum of 5 credit passes in the IGCSE O-Level (including English, Maths, Physics and Chemistry) and 3 passes or grade D in the A-Level (including Maths, Physics and Science/Additional Mathematics).

Mathematics and Physics SL with 5 or better OR Mathematics and Physics HL with 3 or better. Credit passes in 5 O-Level subjects (including English, Maths and Physics).

IT, Business & Communication Arts Programs

6 credit passes with minimum C6 including 3 core subjects (including Math + English) and 3 elective subjects

Minimum D or a pass in 6 subjects including 3 cores subjects (including Math + English) & 3 elective subjects

Minimum of 5 credit passes in the IGCSE O-Levels (including Math and English) and 3 passes or grade D in the A-Level

Minimum score of 4 in 3 higher Level (HL) subjects & in English & Mathematics

Minimum of 50% pass including Mathematics and English

Minimum GPA of 3.0

Our Admissions Team works with local and foreign school counselors to enable their students to explore Academic City and make an informed decision about their university careers.

Our annual Education Conference brings together heads and counselors from 31 major high schools in Ghana and Nigeria and is aimed at exposing the participants to a variety of elements crucial for holistic student development. Contact our Admissions Office for more information.

Academic City’s official school visits take place throughout the academic year, but especially before high school students in their senior year write their final exam.

Students can submit to us an application at no charge, however students need to pay an application fee for our admissions staff to review their application.

Application fees can be paid for via wire transfer, cash on campus, mobile money or at an Ecobank branch near you.

If you paid on-line, your e-mail confirmation is your receipt. We do not send any other acknowledgment of payment. If payment is missing, we will contact you.

There is no formula for gaining admission to ACity. Academic accomplishment in senior high school is important. The Admissions Team does not use quotas of any kind. We rely on academic credentials and overall performance of the student.

All applications received are read and carefully considered by our Admissions Team through a series of committee meetings.

Academic City admits students mainly in the Fall semester (September of each new academic year).

Yes, we provide merit-based scholarships and need-based financial aid. We also provide payment plans and can support students to apply for loans.

Upon receiving your submitted application, the Admissions Team will provide a decision within 30 days (Ghana) & 14 days (Nigeria).

You must respond to admissions within 1 month of receiving your offer. Deadlines may vary if you receive an offer with financial aid or scholarship.

The only documents you will need are: (1) Prior educational qualifications and transcript, (2) Equivalence of your qualifications for candidates from foreign language institutes. *Additional optional documents such as certificates of achievement and/or training may improve your application.

Simply indicate on your online application or paper application by ticking the box that asks if you need student housing. Academic City will take care of the rest.
